Matthew Galvin, vice principal at Winsford Academy in Cheshire, discusses what the school have done to manage workload for both teachers and students. Having recognised that teachers were doing an increasing amount of marking in the first lockdown, they have rowed back on this to focus on delivery and assessment for learning. For the students, the school has paused homework and are holding back on what they ask students to do outside of lessons: ‘we want to make sure they aren’t just sitting on screens for hours on end’.
