Matt Ellis, reception teacher and computing lead at Rosendale Primary School, explains how the need to communicate with pupils online has forced schools and society to rethink attitudes around online safety. While in the past it was generally considered inappropriate for teachers to contact pupils outside of school it is now an essential part of their education, creating the need for a whole new set of safeguarding considerations. It’s important that teaschers are able to work alongside parents to ensure that, under these new conditions, children’s safety is still prioritised, and that children develop the skills to make their own informed decisions.
