Elodie Nelson, a year 5 teacher and computing subject leader from Julians Primary School, recognises the centrality of online safety when much of teaching is being delivered online. Having frank conversations with the children about appropriate online behaviour has been a successful approach, particularly in tackling specific issues occuring between pupils. Elodie notes that it is important that messages relating to online safety make clear links with children’s online lives outside of an educational context, such as the commercialisation they may be exposed to when watching sponsored videos by vloggers and Youtubers.
