Alexander Cooke, secondary school English teacher and remote learning lead for Shavington High School, explains how the approach to learning design that his School is using has developed throughout the pandemic. Though Shavington is using live teaching for check-ins and catch up sessions the school has been taking an increasingly asynchronous approach in how pupils engage with their lessons. As well as giving pupils more flexibility in terms of when they can complete their work, this has also allowed teachers to reduce the necessary screen time involved in their lesson plans. Lessons may begin and end with live contact time but in the intervening period pupils are given the opportunity to work at their own pace, often away from a device.
