    Run in collaboration with the Association for Learning Technology, the conference looked at online learning from a variety of angles, including accessibility, copyright concerns, and the future of blended education.

    Embracing radical uncertainty – Sheila MacNeill

    Sheila MacNeill explores some of the new realities that we are all working and living with in relation to digital learning and teaching. The talk looks at the challenges that the pandemic has brought to education as well as our daily lives, exploring the notion of radical uncertainty in relation to what has unfolded and is unfolding across the education sector. Sheila asks how can we ensure that digital learning will evolve to help everyone (students, teachers, parents, employers, wider society) to develop in equitable, accessible and hopeful ways.

    Digital accessibility is grown up now. But how mature is it? – Alistair McNaught

    Digital Accessibility has come of age. 21 years after the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) were launched, they are now the legal “accessibility requirement” for public sector websites. This includes thousands of local authority websites and hundreds of universities and colleges. And is not just the externally facing website, it’s the learning platform, the library platform, the intranet and all the resources sitting on all these platforms.

    Being involved in digital but knowing nothing about accessibility is a bit like being involved in catering and knowing nothing about allergies. It matters.

    In this session, Alistair McNaught an independent consultant with 16 years experience in the field, introduces digital accessibility in a session that focuses on the human experience and pragmatic approaches.
